FALL CHAMPIONSHIP COOL DOWN. To wind out the year, the Melges 17 moves forward to its very first Fall Championship Regatta in Charlotte, North Carolina on October 21-22. A decent sized fleet of M17s are expected to attend — potentially as many as a dozen will show off their ultra-cool sail profiles and super speed.

ART BRERETON WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE
2006 MELGES 17 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

CONGRATULATIONS to Art Brereton on his second consecutive Melges 17 National Championship title! The competition was stiff as up-and-coming racers Iggy and Andy Labanauskas gave Brereton a run for the money. In the end, luck and calling the shifts didn't stack-up in their corner and they settled for the overall second position.

The Lake Geneva Yacht Club really turned on the charm and rolled out the red carpet for the thirty-boat strong fleet with fantastic cocktails on Friday evening, dinner and a hot, rockin' band on Saturday evening. A grand awards ceremony — European style was held on Sunday afternoon where a kickin' DJ was on hand spin'in some tunes for the winners. A truly exciting way to close out an exciting championship.

The racing was top-notch and the competition simply unparalleled as five races in two days took place. Four different race winners! Race 1 and Race 2: Art Brereton; Race 3: Mike Dow; Race 4: Mary Anne Ward and Race 5: Blaine Unicume. Congratulations to everyone who were able to make it! Special thanks to the Lake Geneva Yacht Club and the race committee for working so hard to make the racing great and the off-the water festivities the best!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: 2007 MELGES 17
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN CRYSTAL LAKE, MICHIGAN

2007 AUGUST 25-26. Get ready for the 2007 Melges 17 National Championship on August 25-26 and hosted by the Crystal Lake Yacht Club in Crystal Lake, Michigan. "For those who have never been to Crystal Lake, I will start by saying you can drink from the lake and see the bottom in 50 feet of water. With a sixteen square mile sailing area, deep waters, white "sugar sand" beaches and big lake thermals (we almost always have lots of wind), Crystal Lake is as close to a perfect inland lake as you will find," commented '07 National Championship Regatta Organizer and Melges 17 racer extraordinaire Bob Wynkoop. "For those doing their planning early, the nearest towns are Frankfort and Beulah and the closest commercial airport is Traverse City, Michigan."

2006 MELGES 17 FALL CHAMPIONSHIP
OCTOBER 21-22. On the fast approach, the Melges 17's very first Fall Championship held third week of October at the Catawba Yacht Club in Charlotte, North Carolina is set to be a great success. A minimum of ten Melges 17 are expected to attend! "We have six pre-registered, I brought four down and going back for another two shortly. The band has been scheduled for Saturday night and the caterer is all set," said Regatta Organizer, Bill Wiggins.
