THE MELGES 17 RAMPS UP IN STYLE
FOR THE VERY FIRST MIDWINTER CHAMPIONSHIP

The first annual Melges 17 Midwinter Championship is drawing closer by the day, the minute, the second. This two day regatta will be a spectacular way to kick-off the sailing season and there is no place better to do that than at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club in Lake Eustis, Florida!
2006 MELGES 17 MIDWINTER CHAMPIONSHIP

FEBRUARY 18-19. The very first M17 Midwinter Championship is now only one week away and the excitement generated by this highly anticipated event is fever pitch. Taking place at the legendary, very hospitable Lake Eustis Sailing Club, this regatta will set the pace for great Melges 17 racing in the south and
kick-off the sailing season.

Over 15 Melges 17s are slated to compete including top runner-up in the 2005 Nationals, Bill Fauntleroy from Winnetka, Illinois; Bob Wynkoop will be traveling from Glastonbury, Connecticut. There are four local favorites: Curt Dipsqua, Mark and Mary Scarpelli, Ray Laguna and, the only helmswoman signed-up Mary Anne Ward. Many of the competitors are traveling great distances to participate in what is set to be an awesome event.

Commencement is Friday, February 17 offering a tuning session, demonstrator sailing and early registration. On Saturday, things heat up at 11:00 a.m., on the course... BE THERE! Besides the terrific racing that is sure to take place, a party is slated for Saturday night, drinks and a keg will be available at the club after racing, then dinner and music at The Third Place (a pay as you go bar.) On Sunday, the racing will resume, then followed by trophies being awarded to the top six finishers and of course, the tip-of-the-top, cream-of-the-crop - the 2006 M17 Midwinter Championship Trophy.

Sound like fun? It will be, so pack the boat and hit the road. For those of you who have hitched a ride on the Melges 17 Zenda Express, rest up as you hop a flight to Florida because the competition will be fierce.
