As I speak, I am driving to Grand Lake, Colorado with the Melges 17. The M17 promotion has been a push this summer. This hot new boat has traveled from coast-to-coast and now into the mountains we go. Grand Lake is a beautiful sailing venue. The club has a race week that features one of the oldest trophies in yachting - The Lipton Cup. We will be showing off the new Melges 17 to all the racers. The surroundings are ideal for the Melges 17. Heads will be turning as we blaze up and down the lake.

The Melges 17 National Championship is coming up - don't miss this historic event. White Lake will be putting on a banner regatta. All of us will be there!

After this week the Melges 17 rolls up to Spring Lake, Michigan for display at the Western Michigan Championship. In West Michigan alone there are fifteen Melges 17's racing. This state is definitely setting the pace.

MELGES 17 TIPS FROM THE TOP

WHEN PUTTING ON YOUR MELGES 17 FULL DECK COVER: Please be sure to undo one of your jib sheets - let them go slack - then your cover will fit properly over the bow area.

WHEN DOUSING YOUR ASYMMETRICAL KITE: Unfurl your jib before dropping... also, tail your retrieval line in before uncleating the halyard. This will allow the kite to go into your boat easier - not into the water.

REVIEW MELGES.COM AND ONEDESIGN.COM: For weekly updates, pictures and tuning thoughts. These are two of the leading sailing websites in the world. Place them on your favorite list.

IF YOUR MAINSAIL IS A BIT STICKY UPON HOISTING: Use McLube Sailkote on the bolt rope of the main. This makes hoisting the mainsail much easier. This can also be used on your kite launcher hole. This will allow the kite to go in and out of the boat easier.
NEW MELGES 17s AVAILABLE

START A NEW FLEET IN YOUR AREA! Get more people involved with the Melges 17. Our next delivery date is late August as of this posting. We will also be making new boats into the Fall and Winter months in Zenda. We anticipate a 50 boat year... possibly more. Encourage interested ones to get on board and buy a new Melges 17. The sailing and racing is awesome!

TRY THIS!

One thing that we, at Melges Performance Sailboats have been experimenting with is tying your kite retrieval line straight out of the hole - straight up to the first patch of the asymmetrical rather than going under the foot and then up to the first patch. Harry Melges reports after an evening sail that it performed quite well and that we should encourage people to try this and see which they prefer. Send us your feedback!
